High Sierra Showerheads is a small, family-owned business that makes sustainable shower heads in California. These products feature a new and innovative nozzle that utterly disrupts the 200-year-old conventional design. It splits and then collides two streams of water, making a luxurious, drenching spray of large, heavy droplets.
By launching a monthly e-mail newsletter in December 2023, High Sierra has grown a mailing list of loyal, engaged customers and supporters. By placing a significant emphasis on informative and/or interesting articles, in contrast to self-promotion, the newsletter has succeeded at retaining subscribers. (Even despite the challenge that customers typically only buy such products at intervals of 3 to 10 years, and that there are few obvious touchpoints after purchase.)
To date, the newsletter has featured news from the fields of water and general sustainability, often spotlighting people and organizations doing meritorious work. It has also shared highlights about High Sierra's partners (such as student-athletes and podcast hosts), customers with notable stories, nonprofit organizations they support, and fellow small businesses with innovative products or services.
