Best Movie Mobile Application
We took an unconventional approach to mobile development to emulate LAIKA’s unique animation style in a touch screen experience. Using traditional animation techniques on 2D photographs of the actual mockettes, we were able to maintain the film’s richly textured aesthetic and painstaking details in retina-quality graphics. We did this because it was important to us that the Boxtroll characters were more than just static images in the game. The game utilizes the native gyroscope in many devices to provide a sense of depth – menu scenes twist and move as the user tilts the device, creating a parallax effect that is natural but stunning. The result is a playable environment that shares The Boxtrolls’ spirit of innovation and visual integrity, and feels like a fluid extension of the film.
We also wanted the game to be accessible and appealing to a wide audience of people. so we created a one-touch runner that is simple to learn but difficult to master and decided to give users a set of simple tap and swipe controls that yield highly rewarding results. In this sense, players can be a low-mid skilled casual gamers and still feel like they can master this game.
