To launch M&S’s new early careers scheme, The Enterprise Programme, we created something that would appeal to those who see the bigger picture. People who question the established order of things. Candidates who don’t accept anything as set in stone – we wanted disruptors. The Rube Goldberg machine is a perfect example of this attitude. Before a Rube Goldberg machine is created, it’s just a collection of inanimate objects, it takes vision to make them come alive. We created a Rube Goldberg-style film made almost entirely from M&S products. We did this to show our potential candidates that M&S is open to new ideas. We did it to show that in the vast network of moving parts that is our business, elegant and exciting ideas are just waiting to happen.
