Primary audience – people interested in learning more about Olympus. The video is for customers and business partners in our various industries (i.e. consumers, doctors and researchers as well as photo retailers, hospital administrators and government officials), local businesses, employees and potential employees, etc. The video primarily resides on our corporate website and is utilized at tradeshows, in Olympus office buildings across North and South America, recruiting events and for other relevant activities. The key takeaway was to make viewers think “Wow, I didn’t know that about Olympus!” Given the limited budget for the video, we had to attack the project with internal resources. Rather than casting actors, hiring photographers, storyboard artists, directors or producers, we featured employees within the video and tasked members of the Corporate Creative Services and Corporate Communications departments to fill the roles and responsibilities required for a large-scale video project. It was truly an in-house production. Being an imaging company, it was fitting to use still photography throughout the video – additionally, all photos in the video where shot with Olympus camera. Six in-house photo shoots were scheduled to capture thousands of images of more than 100 employee “models” from offices throughout North and South America. Simultaneously, we researched examples of kinetic typography to complement the strong script. And from a creative standpoint, we brought the photos to life through the use of special effects/animation (e.g., a faux depth of field blur, Ken Burns effect and kinetic typography).
